Setting Up Network Types

Before you can create Networks to organize your marketing organizations, agents, and accounts, you'll need to configure at least one Network Type. Network Types define the categories and structure for your networks.

What Are Network Types?

Network Types are templates that categorize your networks by their purpose and organizational structure. Each Network Type can have its own custom fields, workflows, and intent designation. When you create a new Network, you'll select which Network Type it belongs to.

Common Network Type intents include:

  • Administrative - For general administrative groupings

  • General Agents - For networks of general insurance agents

  • Field Marketing Organization (FMO) - For field marketing organizations

  • Independent Marketing Organization (IMO) - For independent marketing organizations

  • National Marketing Organization (NMO) - For national marketing organizations

  • Managing General Agent (MGA) - For managing general agent networks

  • Managing General Underwriter (MGU) - For managing general underwriter networks

Accessing Network Types

  1. Navigate to Configuration from the main menu

  2. Expand the Network section in the sidebar

  3. Click Network Types

You'll see a list of all existing Network Types, with options to search by name and filter to show only active types.

Creating a New Network Type

  1. From the Network Types list, click the New button in the upper right

  2. Fill in the required fields:

    • Name - A descriptive name for this type (e.g., "Field Marketing Organization" or "Regional MGA")

    • Network Intent - Select the category that best describes this type's purpose from the dropdown

    • Description - Optional text explaining when to use this type

  3. Optionally, expand Manage Custom Fields to add custom data fields that Networks of this type will have

  4. Click Save to create the Network Type

Adding Custom Fields to Network Types

Custom fields allow you to capture additional information specific to Networks of a particular type. For example, you might add fields for:

  • Region or territory

  • Contract number

  • Start date

  • Commission tier

To add custom fields:

  1. When creating or editing a Network Type, expand the Manage Custom Fields accordion

  2. Click Add Field

  3. Configure the field type (text, number, date, dropdown, etc.) and settings

  4. Save the Network Type

All Networks created with this type will include these custom fields in their forms.

Setting Up Workflows for Network Types

You can attach workflow templates to Network Types to automate processes when new Networks are created. Available workflow triggers include:

  • Create Network - Triggered when a new Network of this type is created

To add a workflow template:

  1. Navigate to the Network Type detail page by clicking on a Network Type name

  2. In the Workflow Templates widget on the right, click New Template

  3. Configure the workflow trigger and actions

  4. Save the workflow template

Editing a Network Type

  1. From the Network Types list, click the three-dot menu on the row you want to edit

  2. Select Edit

  3. Make your changes to the name, intent, description, or custom fields

  4. Click Save

Note: Changes to custom fields will affect all existing Networks of this type. Be cautious when removing or modifying fields that may contain data.

Archiving a Network Type

If you no longer need a Network Type, you can archive it to hide it from active lists while preserving existing Networks.

  1. From the Network Types list, click the three-dot menu on the row

  2. Select Archive

  3. Confirm the action

Archived Network Types:

  • Will not appear in the "New Network" dropdown

  • Can be viewed by unchecking "Active Only" in the filter

  • Can be reactivated at any time

  • Preserve all existing Networks of that type

Best Practices

  • Plan your structure first - Consider your organization's hierarchy and reporting needs before creating Network Types

  • Use meaningful names - Choose names that clearly indicate the purpose (e.g., "Regional FMO" vs. just "Type 1")

  • Select appropriate intents - The intent helps standardize categorization across your organization

  • Add relevant custom fields - Include fields that will help with reporting and tracking specific to that network type

  • Create workflow templates - Automate onboarding tasks for new Networks

Next Steps

Once you've created your Network Types, you're ready to:

  • Create your first Network

  • Learn about the Network Tab and daily operations
