Overview
The Financials section gives you a consolidated view of a client's financial picture in Swivel. It can include information from products your firm services, external holdings added by your firm, and eligible financial accounts added by clients through Client Portals.
An external holding is an asset, liability, or insurance that your firm does not service. Advisors can add external holdings to a client's Financials.
Clients can also add financial accounts through Client Portals. Client-added accounts can be included in the client's financial picture and Net Worth.
Financials is available to all Swivel customers. You do not need Client Portals to view Financials or add external holdings.
đ Tip: External holdings are added by advisors in Financials for assets, liabilities, and insurance your firm does not service. Clients can add financial accounts through Client Portals, and eligible client-added accounts can be reflected in Net Worth.

Net Worth
Net Worth is the default Financials view. It opens with Total Net Worth, followed by Total Assets and Total Liabilities displayed side by side.
Net Worth can include financial information added by your firm in Financials as well as eligible financial accounts added by clients through Client Portals.
Below the totals are grouped lists for Assets and Liabilities.
Assets
Every asset category appears in a fixed order, even when it has no holdings. Empty categories show an em dash (â).
When a category contains holdings, its row shows the number of holdings and category total. Select the row to expand it and view the holdings.
Asset categories, in order:
Checking / Savings
Money Market / CD
Retirement Accounts
Investments
Cryptocurrency
Annuities
Life Insurance (Cash Value)

Categories with holdings show the number of holdings and category total. Select a category to expand it and view the holdings.
Composition by Category
At the bottom of Net Worth, Composition by Category summarizes the client's financial information by category.
Categories are shown from largest to smallest. Each category includes its percentage of the total and dollar amount.
Liquid Assets
Liquid Assets focuses on the client's liquid assets. It shows the total liquid assets at the top, followed by the Checking / Savings holdings that make up that total.
If the client has no liquid assets, the tab displays âNo liquid accounts connected.â
Liquid Assets and Net Worth serve different purposes: Liquid Assets focuses on the client's liquid assets, while Net Worth provides an overall view of the client's assets and liabilities.
Liabilities
The Liabilities view displays loans and other debts associated with the client.
Estate
The Estate view displays applicable estate-related products stored in Swivel.
đ Note: Manually added external holdings do not contribute to the Estate value.
Insurance
The Insurance view displays applicable insurance information, including external insurance holdings.
Where Does Financial Information Come From?
Financials can include information from several sources, including information entered by your firm and financial accounts added by clients through Client Portals. A badge identifies the source of the financial information:
Source | Meaning |
Manually Added | External holding added by a Swivel user |
Advisor Entered | Product value entered by an advisor |
Carrier Verified | Product information verified through a carrier source |
Custodian Verified | Product information verified through a custodian source |
Client Entered | Information entered by a client through Client Portals |
Plaid Connected *Coming Soon | Account information connected through Plaid |
đ Tip: If a value doesn't look right, check the source badge first. This helps determine where the information came from and how it may need to be updated.

Liability | Increases Total Liabilities and decreases Net Worth |
Insurance | Appears under Insurance; does not affect Net Worth |
External Holding | Does not contribute to Estate |
Add a Holding With Multiple Owners
External holdings can have more than one owner.
For example, if two spouses jointly own a bank account, add both contacts as Owners. The holding will appear in Financials for each owner.
When adding a holding from a Household record, Swivel pre-populates the primary and secondary household contacts as Owners.
Edit or Delete an External Holding
Open the contact's Financials section.
Find the external holding.
Click the three-dot action menu.
Select the appropriate option to edit or delete the holding.
đ§ Important: You cannot change an Asset to a Liability or Insurance holding after it has been created. Delete the existing holding and create a new one using the correct type.
