AI and Transcription Credits

Learn how credits are used for AI Notetaker, transcription, and AI Chat in Swivel.

Written by Boni Newberry

How AI and Transcription Credits Work

Swivel uses two types of credits for AI-powered features:

  • Transcription credits are used to transcribe audio. One second of audio uses 1 transcription credit.

  • AI credits are used when Swivel processes or generates AI-powered content, such as meeting summaries and AI Chat responses.

For example, a 30-minute meeting uses:

  • 1,800 transcription credits

  • Approximately 16 AI credits

📌 Note: AI usage can vary based on the amount of information being processed and generated, so the number of AI credits used for similar activities may not always be the same.

Credits Included With Your Plan

Premier Plan

Premier plans include the following each month:

  • 3,600 AI credits

  • 360,000 transcription credits, equivalent to 100 hours of audio

Included monthly credits are replenished each month and do not roll over. Credits are typically replenished on the calendar month. Certain account changes, such as signing up for a new account or upgrading to Premier, may also trigger a new credit allotment.

All Other Plans

AI and transcription credits are not included with other plans. Account Owners can purchase credit packs from the Billing page or contact Swivel Sales Team to discuss upgrading to Premier.

Purchasing Additional Credits

Only Account Owners have access to the Billing page and can purchase additional credits.

Credit packs are available for:

  • 3,600 AI credits — $6.50

  • 360,000 transcription credits (100 hours) — $5.25

Purchased credits do not expire.

If your plan includes monthly credits, those credits are used first. Purchased credits are used after your included credits have been consumed.

How to Purchase Additional Credits

  1. Navigate to Settings

  2. Under Account Settings select Billing

  3. In the AI / Transcription Credits click Add Credits.

FAQs

What Happens If I Run Out of Credits?

When your account runs out of the credits required for an AI feature, you won't be able to start new activity that requires those credits until additional credits are available.

For example, if your account runs out of transcription credits:

  • Start AI Notetaker will become unavailable.

  • An out-of-credits message will appear in Swivel.

  • Account Owners can select Add Credits to purchase additional credits.

Similar messaging will appear when AI credits are unavailable.

Already have something in progress? Don't worry! AI or transcription work that has already started will finish normally, even if completing it causes your credit balance to go below zero.

What Happens If My Balance Goes Below Zero?

Swivel allows AI and transcription activity already in progress to finish rather than stopping it when your remaining credits are exhausted.

As a result, your account may have a negative credit balance.

A negative balance carries forward and will be applied against the next monthly credit allotment or credit purchase.

For example, if your account has a negative balance when new credits are added, those credits will first be used to bring the balance back toward zero.

There is currently no maximum negative balance.

What If I Run Out of Only One Type of Credit?

AI and transcription credits are separate balances, and different features have different credit requirements.

AI Notetaker requires both AI and transcription credits. If your account runs out of either type, you won't be able to start AI Notetaker until the required credits are available.

Will I Be Notified When Credits Run Out?

Yes. When a credit balance crosses into negative, the Owner receives an email letting them know that the account has run out of that type of credit.

Swivel does not currently send low-balance notifications before credits are exhausted.

When do my monthly Premier credits reset?

Premier AI and transcription credits are replenished each calendar month. Credits may also be applied when a new account is created or when an account upgrades to a Premier plan.

Do unused monthly credits roll over?

No. Monthly credits included with Premier plans do not roll over. Your included balance is replenished each month.

Do purchased credits expire?

No. Purchased AI and transcription credits do not expire.

Which credits are used first?

If you have both included and purchased credits, your included monthly credits are consumed first.

Can anyone purchase additional credits?

No. The Billing page is available to Owners. Owners can purchase additional AI or transcription credits from this page.

Why did AI Notetaker become unavailable if I still have credits?

AI Notetaker requires both AI and transcription credits. If either balance is exhausted, you won't be able to start a new AI Notetaker session until the required credits are available.

Will a meeting stop if I run out of credits during the meeting?

No. Work already in progress will finish normally, even if doing so results in a negative balance.

What happens to a negative balance if my plan changes?

Negative balances remain on the account. Future monthly allotments or purchased credits will first be applied toward the negative balance.

Can I see what used my credits?

Swivel does not currently provide a historical breakdown showing which individual activities consumed your credits.

Why can AI credit usage vary?

AI credit usage is based on how much information Swivel's AI processes and generates. Because this can vary by activity, similar requests or meetings may not always use exactly the same number of AI credits.
